Introduction to CNC, May 9, 2017

Last night we had a great beginner course on understanding CNC, using Sketchup and the 3020 CNC machine.

The course description was as follows:

Fast track of steps from A-Z of making a simple part. This is an overview and description of CNC. Also during the presentation we will see the process from A-Z of making a small part out of wood or plastic. $15 for non members.

We had a good turnout and we managed to make some pins. We cut them from some stained birch and then glued on a pin using super glue.

I forgot to take pictures so all I have is the before and after shots…

Sunday Meetup

So May 7th (2017) was our first Sunday meetup.

Aside from a drawing robot and CNC demo, the highlight was Doug hacking the “H” balloon into the Starship Enterprise.

First Open House!

The first open house was a success (Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017) and we have our first members! And I got my first “member feedback”. As a result a couple of changes were made to the policy which will be updated shortly.

In summary everybody gets some storage space.

The Maker2 will get a cubby hole! After some thought I think it’s better if Maker1 level had a shared shelf for projects as well. So everybody gets space for projects.

It’s Here!

We are now approving member applications! Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Someone is often in the space now so if you would like to see it please send me a note at darcy@inventorArtist.com.

Space Secured

About 11am on Wednesday, April 26th, 2017, I put out a call to see who was interested in a makerspace project and at what level. I finally had some locations plus I had been working for some time at finding candidates who might be interested in the project.

By Friday the same week I felt that the response was good enough so I made arrangements take over an excellent space at 299 Bank Street. The following Monday I received the key.

It took quite some time for the stars to align and when they did it was just three days from the call to having the space.

The next weeks will be very busy.
