After just two months of operation the makerspace now has people, projects and tools! We are really enjoying the space, collaboration, sharing and fun.
Here are a few pictures from last Sunday’s meetup (and some other meetups and activities).
The plan was to do Fathers Day portraits like we did for Mothers Day. Nobody came for that but we had 8 people and we did a CNC walk-through on making these Fathers Day Coasters!
We worked on the CD-Dress project. There are now seven people on the project (some making more than one dress). More news to be released on this project soon! If you are interested in this project, send a note to darcy@inventorArtist.com.
There was also an Arduino Blink scheduled for 7pm but there were no RSVP. We did have one person show but he didn’t have a laptop. So I made an arrangement for him to come back for a more serious session.
The Wednesday, May 10, 2017 open house was a blast.
We worked on the CD Dress project as there was a brief soldering demo and hands-on.
Last night we had a great beginner course on understanding CNC, using Sketchup and the 3020 CNC machine.
The course description was as follows:
Fast track of steps from A-Z of making a simple part. This is an overview and description of CNC. Also during the presentation we will see the process from A-Z of making a small part out of wood or plastic. $15 for non members.
We had a good turnout and we managed to make some pins. We cut them from some stained birch and then glued on a pin using super glue.
I forgot to take pictures so all I have is the before and after shots…
The first open house was a success (Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017) and we have our first members! And I got my first “member feedback”. As a result a couple of changes were made to the policy which will be updated shortly.
In summary everybody gets some storage space.
The Maker2 will get a cubby hole! After some thought I think it’s better if Maker1 level had a shared shelf for projects as well. So everybody gets space for projects.
